We Free Men Biography A typical hard working band? The idea behind We Free Men remains a powerfully simple one. To make music they enjoy and can feel proud of playing. They create songs that they feel people like themselves will love to listen to. We Free Men are not angry young men, who model themselves on heavy riff driven death metal. They are not made up of members of any of rocks greatest groups. They do not originate from the depths of despair. They do not claim to be unfathomably heavy, or uncompromisingly introspective, but they are startlingly unique. We Free Men bring a new flava to the world of rock music. Not quite punk and not quite rock and do I detect just a little folk country there somewhere, well perhaps just a soupcon. They have been described by some as being Progressive Folk due to their liberal use of various progressive styles to create music for the people. I know what you may be thinking, I feel as if I have heard something like this before. Well you have, but you have never heard it like this before. We Free Men were formed in 2007 from members of bands that played the difficult and uncompromising South West Scotland circuit. It was during this time that the singer song writer Baz Hutchinson teamed up with guitarist song writer Will Harvey and drummer Stu McKenzie. Soon after they met bass player “The Geezer” who was to complete their four piece line up. These guys are originals, they have seen it all and done most of it. They have lived through and reveled in Punk, toyed with Heavy Metal/Rock, tasted Ska/Reggie, cringed at New Romantic, despaired at Acid House and Rave, and dabbled with Techno. They always stayed true to their Punk Rock roots. We Free men have distilled all of their experiences into a contemporary blend of acoustically artistic and seminal sounds that create a music recipe that uniquely suits most tastes and yet still feels original. What they have achieved is a subtle blend of auditory experience that is on one hand sweet but has a bitter quality that gives the listeners a balanced brand of musical fair that satisfies without bloating. We Free Men have set out to give their listeners an experience that on one hand is fresh and inventive and yet can be seen as familiar enough to feel like comfort fare. What they have achieved is nearly the impossible, no teenage angst, or rage against the machine. Just balanced rock that clearly defines it’s purpose and gets its message across without any confusion. We Free Men state quite simply “You the music industry owe us our shot. We have never said never, and it’s our turn now. Give us our turn because we are good, not because we fit your mould of what rock music should be but because we offer good honest music that we and our peers love”.
